Daily Planet Type Reel

Here's a new reel for the new year. This video comes from Daily Planet.

I love kinetic typography and anything with type animation. So therefore, I love this. There's a mix of 2D and 3D type throughout and nothing about the video is just boring text. Its exciting and upbeat. It showcases all their various commercial and advertising. There's even a couple dailyplanet logo animations thrown in there as well.

There seems to be a cut every 2-3 seconds in this 1:14 video, but one cut flows right into the next and it never gets stale. In fact, its a pretty awesome testament to all the cool things you can do with text.

I hope I start seeing more 2011 type reels in the near future. Any others out there that should be checked out?

2010 Chicago Blackhawks Opener

From Daily Planet, this one is a few months old, but since it features both the defending Stanley Cup Champions as well as my hometown team (Hey, Hey, Hockeytown!), I thought it was a good place to start.

Daily Planet does a lot of work for the Chicago Blackhawks and this one doesn't disappoint. Its fun to see Chicago incorporated into a project and Daily Planet is able to put emphasis on a lot of landmarks as it blends hockey play with the city streets. Plus, some of the work on this project was done by both faculty and students at Columbia College Chicago.

And just for comparison, here's "Hit The Ice", the pre-game jumbotron video that was used last year prior to the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup. Also made by Daily Planet with a similar premise. Does the 2010-11 opener live up to the excitement of last year's version?
